Writers Block by Brandon Macdonald

Writers Block by Canadian artist and photographer Brandon Macdonald captures a fascinating group of young Shaggy Mane mushrooms growing near Mill Lake in British Columbia.

The title comes from the mushrooms’ connection to ink-making. Shaggy Mane mushrooms can be used to produce ink once they mature and release their spores, but these particular mushrooms were too young to produce the spores needed to make ink. The result? A perfect case of Writers Block.

Photographed at Mill Lake in British Columbia, this image transforms an ordinary moment in nature into a playful story about mushrooms, creativity, and the unexpected ways nature can inspire art.
